May 2023 Meeting Summary
At our dinner meeting on May 17th, Ms. Alisha Moore Cole gave a very interesting program titled: “Heroes in Petticoats.” She showed photographs of women in period dress and discussed the varying roles played by women during the American Civil War. Some women remained within the domestic sphere or temporarily extended its boundaries. Others entered the public sphere of men, never to return. Learning what women could accomplish during wartime planted the seeds of ambition and confidence that gave momentum to the women’s suffrage movement.
Ms. Cole is a Social Historian and Independent Museum Professional specializing in living history interpretation, exhibit design and installation, and research. She has worked with private, municipal, state, and federal run museums and programs in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States.
