Dan Dooley Bio
Dan Dooley is a 30 year-plus resident of the Kansas City area living in Overland Park. He grew up in Dallas, Texas and graduated from Southern Methodist University in that city. He and his wife Jane moved six times over his career in the insurance/reinsurance industry before settling in Overland Park in the late 1980s. During that time, he and Jane had three children, all of whom now live in Johnson County, and have given them seven (eight in April) grandchildren.
Dan's love for the Civil War began in elementary school during the centenial of the war, and has never abated. He has a collection of war-era books, as well as war relics and related ephemera including more than a dozen Confederate War bonds and an equal number of pieces of Confederate currency. He continues to read current and not-so-current books on the subject of the war and is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the American Battlefield Trust (formerly the Civil War Trust). His love of history is not confined to the Civil War and Dan is a member of the World War I Museum, World War II Museum, and Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He also volunteers regularly at the Museum at Prairiefire, a natural history museum affilated with the New York Museum of Natural History.
