At our April dinner meeting, Civil War historians and authors Mr. Todd Mildfelt and Mr. David D. Schafer gave a very interesting presentation titled: “What made
James Montgomery an Abolitionist of the Most Dangerous Kind?” James Montgomery was a radical abolitionist and the “original jayhawker” in pre-Civil War Kansas. During the war, Montgomery led a regiment of Black soldiers in the Department of the South. Attendance at the dinner meeting was 60.
